Next time you plan on having the girls over for movie night, skip the pizza and pop up some popcorn! Popcorn’s easy to make, low in calories and packed with good-for-you fiber. Try one of these easy ways to make homemade flavored popcorn, or let everyone flavor their own popcorn by purchasing pre-made seasonings like Kernel Season’s. (The cheesy flavors are delicious!)

Chocolate peppermint popcorn trail mix

This couldn’t-be-easier recipe is downright delicious and serves as the perfect replacement for cookies and ice cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1 regular-sized bar of Hershey’s dark chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 8 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • dash of sea salt
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup almonds

Directions:

  1. Spread the popcorn, almonds and cranberries across a baking sheet.
  2. Put the chocolate and peppermint extract in a microwave safe bowl, and microwave until chocolate is smooth. You’ll want to stir it every 15 to 20 seconds while melting.
  3. Drizzle the chocolate over the popcorn, cranberries and almonds. Sprinkle with sea salt.
  4. Place in the fridge for about 30 minutes, allowing the chocolate to harden.

Garden dill popcorn

For a fresh and flavorful popcorn seasoning, keep your mix dry, but potent. Pop your popcorn in a pot over medium-high heat, using just enough oil to keep it from burning – I usually use about a tablespoon of oil for every three tablespoons of popcorn kernels.

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoons dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients together, then pour over your freshly popped popcorn, tossing well to mix. There should be just enough oil on the popcorn to help it stick.

Italian buffalo popcorn

When you can’t choose between Italian bread sticks or buffalo wings, that’s when you go for Italian buffalo popcorn. By mixing hot sauce with Italian seasonings, you really get the best of both worlds.

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • 1 tablespoon basil
  • 1 tablespoon parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (adjust amount based on flavor preferences)

Directions:

  1. Mix dry seasonings together and toss over popcorn, mixing well.
  2. Drizzle hot sauce over the top, continuing to mix, adjusting amount of hot sauce to taste.

Chili lime

For a little south of the border flavor, try this zesty chili lime popcorn on for style.

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 cups freshly popped popcorn
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (we used a garlic and chili infused oil)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • lime zest (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix the chili powder, garlic powder, salt and lime zest in a small bowl.
  2. In a second small bowl, mix the olive oil and lime juice.
  3. Toss the popcorn with the oil mixture, then sprinkle the dry ingredients on top. Continue mixing until popcorn is evenly coated.
