The Bike Deconstructed

Bike Deconstructed

On the surface, bikes look simple, but they’re actually an incredible machine made of hundreds of parts, all of which work together to provide smooth transportation and athletic competition. If the dad in your life is an engineer, a tinkerer, a handyman, or a bike connoisseur, he’s going to love this book by Richard Hallett. With beautiful images and clear writing, it explains exactly what each part is and how it works.

The Spicy Paleo Cookbook

spicy paleo cookbookThere are some seriously delicious recipes in this cookbook, including the super-simple Peppery Prosciutto Chips recipe and the Raspberry Habanero Margarita, both of which got rave reviews in our household.

Peppery Prosciutto Chips

Serves 2-4

  • 1/2 teaspoon finely crushed black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely crushed cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon finely crushed red pepper
  • 6 ounces fresh prosciutto, finely sliced

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F.  Combine spices in a small bowl.
  2. Line 1-2 cookie sheets with parchment paper. Place the prosciutto slices in a single layer on the sheets. Sprinkle evenly with spices.
  3. Place the sheets in the oven on the middle rack, and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until crunchy. Remove from heat and transfer the chips to a cooling rack, which allows them to become even crunchier.

Raspberry Habanero Margarita

Serves 1

  • Juice of 1 lime, divided use
  • Sea salt, as needed
  • Pinch lime zest
  • Handful fresh raspberries, plus more for garnish
  • 1 small slice habanero pepper (The size can vary, depending on desired spice. Start with a slice about the size of a penny.)
  • 2 ounces tequila (use your favorite!)
  • 2 tablespoons raw organic honey
  • Ice, to taste
  • Splash soda water (lime-flavored works well)
  • 1 slice lime, for garnish

  1. Coat the rim of a margarita glass with lime juice, let it dry for a brief moment, and then dip the rim of the glass onto a plate coated with sea salt. Set aside.
  2. Place half of the lime juice, lime zest, and raspberries into a large mixer. Using a garlic press, squeeze the chunk of habanero pepper (flesh side down) into the mixer. Use a muddler to grind all of these ingredients together to create a thick, mushy mixture.
  3. Add tequila, honey, and ice to the mixer, and shake vigorously for 1–2 minutes to create a frothy pink drink. Pour the liquid into the salt-rimmed margarita glass and top it off with a splash of soda water. Garnish with a fresh lime slice and leftover raspberries!

Paleo Smoothies

Smoothies without milk or yogurt can seem kinda boring, but you’ll never think that again thanks to the Paleo Smoothies recipe book. For instance, you can whip up the Razzmatazz Smoothie or the Strawberry Mint Smoothie as delicious morning meals.

I like the whole kingdom for the tablet tail! That way it can be clamped down with the lynx or use the spider monkey tail!

The TabletTail Lynx would suite our family the best because when each of us is on the treadmill, we use our tablet to keep our minds entertained so our bodies don’t give up on long runs.
