red white and blue layered margarita

The trick to this red, white and blue layered margarita is consistency and timing. You want each layer to be as frozen as possible when served, to create the perfect layers. If you have access to multiple blenders, that’s probably the best way to go, but if you don’t, transfer each layer to a separate pitcher and store in the freezer until you’re ready to serve. Keep in mind, this recipe is for a party, so it makes a lot!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup tequila, separated into 1/2 cup parts
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries
  • 6 tablespoons agave nectar, separated into 2 tablespoon parts
  • 14 limes
  • 2 small oranges
  • Crushed ice, as needed

Directions

  1. To make the blue layer, put the juice of 4 limes and 1/2 orange into the bottom of your blender. Add 1/2 cup tequila and 2 tablespoons agave nectar. Add the 2 cups frozen blueberries, and blend. As needed, add crushed ice, continuing to blend, until you get an icy consistency.
  2. To make the white layer, put the juice of 6 limes and 1 orange into the bottom of your blender. Add 1/2 cup tequila and 2 tablespoons agave nectar. Start by adding two cups of crushed ice, blending until smooth. Continue adding more ice until you get the desired, icy consistency.
  3. To make the red layer, put the juice of 4 limes and 1/2 orange into the bottom of your blender. Add 1/2 cup tequila and 2 tablespoons agave nectar. Add the 2 cups frozen strawberries, and blend. As needed, add crushed ice, continuing to blend, until you get an icy consistency.
  4. Into a tall glass (we found that pilsner glasses worked best), add a layer of blue margarita, then pour or spoon a layer of white margarita, finally finishing off with a layer of red margarita.
  5. Rim with salt or garnish with fresh strawberries and blueberries, as desired. Serve immediately, before it starts to melt and blend together!
